About NAPCC

Background & History

The National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) was launched on June 30, 2008, by the Prime Minister's Council on Climate Change. It identifies measures that promote development objectives while yielding co-benefits for addressing climate change effectively. Initially comprising 8 national missions, the framework has since expanded to 9 missions with the addition of the National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health.

Key milestones include India's ratification of the Paris Agreement (2016), submission of enhanced NDC targets (2022), and launch of the Health Mission (2019).
